summer = ice cream

One of the many cooking goals this summer is to make our way through quart after quart of homemade ice cream.  Hopefully with the help of this new book:  The Perfect Scoop.

Our first seasonal creation actually came a few weeks before the official start of summer, but I think it should still count as it was a total success.  The recipe we used was found here and the only changes that were made was to switch out the cocoa nibs with shaved dark chocolate.  Be sure to use really ripe seasonal strawberries for the best result.  I made a quick run to the farmers market that is right outside my window on Friday mornings (I know, I’m lucky) to pick up a three pack of tasty berries.  Not every red juicy berry made it into this ice cream because some found their way into a strawberry & rhubarb peach crumble.  I’ll save that for another post!
