Tupelo Junction Cafe

September 12, 2010

To start off our first road trip headed up the 101 to San Francisco, I thought it would be a good idea to get up early (5 a.m.) and get out of town before traffic started up on the 405.  [For the record, Spork thought this was a good idea, until it was time to get up, and after finishing up some invites and packing the night before]  All in all, we got the car packed up and out on the freeway, after a mandatory Starbucks stop-of course, around 6, putting us on State Street in Santa Barbara a little after 8.

Spork was a great sport about agreeing to eat breakfast (quite possibly my favorite meal) every day of vacation, so I wanted to start off right.  I’d been raving about this little spot called Tupelo Junction Cafe and their pumpkin waffle.  Knowing that the pumpkin alone would be enough to entice my Spork into stopping, I too was very excited to get that waffle served up!  Much to my dismay, we found out that Mom’s Pumpkin Oatmeal Waffle with Carmelized Bananas and Pecans was a seasonal item!!!  Booo!

In any case, on the menu was Mom’s Belgian Waffle with Carmelized Fresh Peaches and Whipped Cream, and they didn’t dissapoint.  Tupelo cooks up one of the meanest, most well balanced waffles you could ask for.  Peaches were caramelized to perfection, and the whipped cream – housemade, light and airy, not too sweet.  WIN.

On a side note, Tupelo introduced Spork to her new favorite iced tea – Republic of Tea’s Ginger Peach . . .
