monthly recap – 01/2011

January 30, 2011

As part of my 101 in 1001 I originally planned on blogging each item as I completed it.  However, I have decided that’s a bit crazy & likely boring (an entire post just because I cleaned my pantry? um. no thanks).  So instead I am changing that goal out with a plan to blog a recap each and every month.  I’m pretty excited about using these monthly posts to share some of the small fun things that don’t get full blog mentions on their own.  I’ll update my 101 list, share random thoughts and pictures,   plus for all my foodie friends (hello kitcheners club!) I can share the details of new recipes & cookbooks that I tried out.

Cooking updates…

I chose the cookbook that I’m planning on cooking my way through in the coming months.  It’s Fresh Food Everyday by Sara Foster.  I received this cookbook years ago as a gift and it’s recipes have never dissapointed.  I’m excited to make my way through recipes that I may not have made if it wasn’t for this little challenge.  I started out with a simple meal that doesn’t really need a recipe at all… her classic cobb salad.  Pictures of the salad along with a few of the other kitchen happenings from January below.

Travel…

We officially started planning our summer vacation this month.  Yes, we both realize it’s months away… but when you have dreams of staying in a yurt on the Oregon coast it’s important that you plan early!  The details are still getting worked out but as of now we do know we will be heading out of LA with hopes of reaching the tippy-top of the continental US during a 19 day road trip through a half dozen national parks.  Exciting!  In preparation for the trip we added a new member to the camera family.  Our sweet little 20D is being pushed aside to make room for a newer and fancier 7D.   Hashi has a little plan in the works to start breaking in the new camera, but I’ll let him tell you about that later.
